Get a satisfied tummy by having your lunch prepared by the chefs at any local taverns located at the pristine beach. Then hop on a church tour by visiting the Monastery of Virgin where an interesting collection of books and icons, as well as other post-Byzantine objects, are being kept.

2. Agios Gordios
Location: 19 km from Corfu Town
Are you the sunset-loving kind of person? You'll love the golden sandy beach of Agios Gordios then. Mountains, green olive trees, impressive rock formations, taverns, and beautifully designed Corfu hotels are most of the sceneries you will get when in Agios Gordios.  Pontikonisi is the main attraction of the island. During touristic seasons you can easily find a small boat to transfer you there, as there are people doing this route multiple times per day. What is special about this church is that it has been built about 1,000 years ago, during the Byzantine era of the island.  The name of the island means “mouse island” in Greek and there are two different stories of how it got this name. The first onw says that it got it from its shape, which reminds a mouse. The second and more likeable is that it got the name from the fact that it is so small. The fact of it being so small gave it also a special spot in ancient Greek legends. According to Homer, Odysseus’s last stop was Corfu; the local myth continued that this was the boat of Odysseus which Poseidon decided to turn into stone during the storm. Last but not least, in case you will find yourself in Corfu during the first days of August, try to arrange the trip to Pontikonisi at 6th of August. During this day it is special celebration and it’s the only day of the year that you will get to admire the inside of the church.
